AHMED D. MODIBBO, FIBA, ACIS
Ahmed D. Modibbo, is a Senior Corporate Executive with over 30 years’ experience and extensive working knowledge of managing transformational change, organizational growth and strategic initiatives across a variety of Public, Private and International Operations Sectors. This is in addition, to his corporate and commercial legal advisory expertise and corporate governance practice competency. His cognate experience in the corporate sector of the Nigerian economy and beyond covers vast and diverse areas such as the financial services industry, developmental banking, regional and international trade, maritime, insurance, and electricity power.
He is currently the Managing Director of Highland Disco Acquisition Company Limited, an Investment Holding Company with investments in the Power Sector in Nigeria and Core Investors and operators of Jos Electricity Distribution Company [JEDC]. Modibbo was appointed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to the Board of FBN Holdings plc on 29 April 2021 as a Non-Executive Director. He was also appointed by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) on 25th June 2021 as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Board of NICON Insurance Limited. He is also a Non-Executive Director and Chairman Corporate Governance Committee Resort Savings & Loans Plc.
Modibbo had spent most of his working career at the Federal Government-owned Nigerian Export-Import Bank, with the last ten (10) years as the Secretary to the Board of Directors and Legal Adviser, a position from which he managed the corporate secretariat and anchored the provision of legal advice and support on all operational and administrate matters of the Banks operations including its interventions in the Manufacturing, Agriculture/Agro-Allied, Solid Minerals and Services Sectors.
He also served as the Secretary to the Board of the Sealink Promotional Company Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle established to promote commercial and maritime interconnectivity within the West and Central African Regions. Following his voluntary retirement from NEXIM Bank in 2019, Modibbo had a stint in private legal practice as Managing Partner of Sterling Legal LP, a corporate and commercial law firm located in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria.
Ahmed Modibbo obtained a Degree in Law (LLB) from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria in 1990 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1991. He had further acquired the International Bar Association/College of Law of England and Wales International Practice Diplomas in International Mergers & Acquisitions, International Business Organizations, International Joint Ventures, International Competition Law, and International Intellectual Property Law, respectively. In March 2007, he became the first Nigerian to attain the status of a Fellow of the International Bar Association in International Legal Practice. Other notable Certifications he obtained include the UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training & Research) Certificate in Negotiation of Financial Transactions and Corporate Governance Best Practice Certificate by Informa/George Washington University in 2013.
He is an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association. A Chartered Secretary and Administrator being an Associate Member of ICSAN (Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria), Modibbo had served on several Professional and Governmental Committees which include being a one-time member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria [CIBN] Committee on Realization of Secured Credits in Nigeria, a one-time member of the Federal Government of Nigeria Committee on the Revival of the Textile Industry in Nigeria and its Technical Sub-Committee on Fund Raising and Management.
He has attended several courses and programmes in Law, Management, Leadership, Risk Management, and Corporate Governance at top business, legal and management schools in Nigeria and abroad.
